The complex world of Paediatric Critical Care requires the help of a multi- disciplinary team to deliver the best care to the very unwell children who are admitted to the unit. In addition to the medical and nursing teams the other teams who are closely involved in the day to day management and form a part of the detailed morning ward rounds are:
The PICU clerical staff ensures the smooth functioning of the PICU – the 3 members of this team are
PICU LEAD
The pain team is closely involved in management of pain of complex PICU patients
Apart from the above team of Allied Health professionals there are 2 other teams that are closely involved in diagnosis and management plans within the PICU:
Infectious diseases team (ID team)
There are twice weekly meetings (on Tuesdays and Thursdays) with the infectious diseases team which help guide optimal choice and duration of antibiotic and antiviral treatment of PICU patients. The 3 Consultants involved in the ID rounds are
Radiology Team
An expert team of Radiologists (Clinical Lead- Dr Simon McGurk) and Radiographers ensure a 24 hour service for routine and complex radiological investigations and Interventional radiology procedures. There is once weekly Radiology rounds within the PICU to discuss in detail the interpretation of complex radiological investigations.
